In contrast to western Covidians who are often young and woke, Japanese Covidians are often elderly and xenophobic. A good example is our old friend and enthusiastic child jabber, Akita Governor Norihisa Satake, who last month tested positive for Covid after returning from France.
According to old Norihisa, he got infected because most people in France don’t wear masks or use hand sanitiser. So he definitely wore a mask, right?
Oh well. But while Gov Satake dislikes foreigners overseas, he hates them even more in Japan.
“Unmasked foreigners in bars and restaurants make lots of noise. Even if you caution them, they don’t listen.”
“Tourists are coming from the west, but if you ask, they hardly take any infection-prevention measures. Even if you say the government recommends them, nobody listens. They follow their own countries’ standards (which are basically nothing).”
In case you were unsure as to why Japan banned foreign tourists for 2.5 years (the NK-style monitor tours in June-Sept don’t count), now you know. The country is full of stupid old bastards like Gov Satake.
In addition to xenophobia, another notable aspect of Japan’s elderly conservative Covidians is their insistence on blaming the youth of today for society’s problems, like Tottori Governor Shinji Hirai did last week.
Yes, Gov Hirai blames heavy breathing at school sports days in October for increased cases in November.
In case you think Gov Hirai is a serious man who was just having an off day, watch this 30-second video he did to promote mask-wearing with your relatives at home. It doesn’t matter whether you can understand Japanese. If anything, it makes the video worse if you do.
Like Gov Satake, Gov Hirai is all for jabbing little kids. But a recent news segment shows it isn’t because child health is one of his priorities.
In the first 3 weeks since jabs for little kids became available, only 0.3% of eligible Japanese kids got one. But for Gov Hirai, the main problem here is apparently that lots of jabs will be thrown away. And how does he suggest mass-disposal be avoided?
That’s about 1000 USD at current rates. Paediatricians who take up the offer to set aside time exclusively for kiddy jabs will also be paid 100,000 yen if they jab over 5 kids a day and 200,000 yen if they jab over 10. If only Gov Hirai cared about wasting taxpayers money the same way he cares about throwing away toxic gene juice.
I’m sure there are enough paediatricians in Tottori who’ll take the cash, but the low uptake of the kiddy jabs suggests even most parents working in healthcare have no interest in increasing their own kids’ risk of autoimmune diseases. And other parents who doubt the need for these jabs probably won’t jump at the opportunity to help reduce the inventory to be sent to the incinerator.
If Gov Hirai has any other ideas, I’d rather not hear them.
Both Akita and Tottori are predominately rural. In Japan, prefectures that have big farms have governors that love Big Pharma.
Why is the dog not wearing a mask? And what is up with the cow?

True! I met a man in May 2022 who went to ICU in 2021. All they gave him was hospital food; not even aspirins!
