Now that it’s one month since the government lifted its universal-masking request, I had hoped that Japanese media would shut up about masks. And now that it’s one month before Covid-19 is finally downgraded, I had also hoped that Japanese experts would stop producing garbage-in garbage-out modelling of future infection waves. However…
More fun for me. I will roam the streets and call every able-bodied male "neutered." They will do nothing because I am right. I highly recommend it. They will hold their heads down in shame. If I get tired, I will get a lawn chair and a few beers and sit on the corner and do the same thing. To prove my higher testosterone count, I will get down on the ground and start doing push ups. "One, Two, Three, Four. You are a mask whore." Repeat. I am going to get buff with all these push-ups. Now , everybody: "One, Two, Three, Four. You are a mask whore." "One, Two, Three, Four. You are a mask whore." I feel like Billy Blanks.
This is as I feared. The number of cases is going up as reported by The Japan Times so I have been of the belief that masking recommendations will return just as lockdown lite returned again and again as the reported number of cases went up. I did not know that they would using garbage modeling to keep this going but I did and do fear that masks mandates, um err “recommendations, yeah...that’s it, recommendations would return.
As a real life example of some of the damage these covid measures have caused, 13 years ago we bough our car. I did most of the shopping and much of the questioning of the various contracts from different makers and my wife you is Japanese then confirmed that I got everything right. Didn’t but got most of it correct. This car now needs to be replaced and i just got back from collecting catalogs from several auto dealerships. After three years of almost never leaving home and not using Japanese, I have lost most of my ability to use the language. Beyond the problem of disuse, there is the fact that all I spoke with today were wearing masks AND behind a thick plastic barrier. I doubt I would have understood them any better if they were speaking in English.
Additionally, I just got confirmation that my elective classes at a med school will continue to be taught online because it is too scary to have students on campus for a full day, cuz covid. I did not get confirmation one way or the other on whether I will be required to wear a mask and face shield for these online classes as we are to do for the morning, in person classes. I’m not wearing either for either, but I am wanting to sound the depths of their madness.
My daugther goes to a Japanese public elementary school. They told us that from this school year on the kids are not asked to mask up anymore. Still on the way to school all her toukouhan members were masked up...
And then apparently the new guidelines (effective until May 8th) by the school still reccomend masking up when talking in a loud voice and not having a distance of one meter to your friends. So the teacher told the students they can take their mask off usually but when they did introductions they asked the students to mask up "so they can speak with a loud voice when doing the self introduction"........
seems it is still a long way to go... but my daugther was pleased to report that most of their classmates took their masks off when sitting at their desk after their teacher told them to....
These computer modelling activist "scientists" need to have some skin in the game.
How about, for every 5% their "projections" turn out to be wrong, they get a salary cut of 5%. And a hard kick up the derriere "pour encourager les autres"?
They are trapped into their own narrative... I have the same opinion as yours : I think they need to find a rationnal to explain why cases won't go up so much even though masks are still weared by 90% of the population. Plus, coming May, tests won't be free anymore, so cases are going to go low, and therefore they will have to find a rational, i.e. masks, to explain that tendency.
What scares me the most is this absolute trsut in A.I.. I can recognize the utility of A.I. to a certain extend as long as it is not trying to replace humans or human prophets...
We will see what's going to happen.
This summer, we are going to France with my family. I hope they will ask me for not taking them back to Japan... But as you said : don't hope.
